Zyxware Announces Launch of India's First Freedom Toaster

Zyxware Technologies, today announced that they will be releasing India's first Freedom Toaster in a function to be held at Park Center, Technopark on 1st Sep at 4:30PM. The toaster will be inaugurated by The Hon'ble Minister for Education, Government of Kerala, Shri. M.A. Baby who will also inaugurate the 5-day GNU/Linux Install fest which will be held at the same venue from Sep 1 to Sep 5.

A freedom toaster is a Free Software CD/DVD vending machine that will make a copy any Free Software that the user wants on a CD or DVD. Such a dispensing mechanism is highly relevant in a country like India where cheap and unlimited broadband internet which remains the chief means of free software distribution, is not very prevalent. This Freedom Toaster was inspired by the original Freedom Toaster(s) created by the Shuttleworth Foundation and is designed and developed by Zyxware Technologies and promoted jointly by Zyxware Technologies and GNU/Linux Users Group Trivandrum. This is a ground breaking event in the history of Free Software in India and through this we are planning to promote free software massively by making it accessible to people across the country. Only very few freedom toasters exist across the whole world and this is going to be the first one in India.

A vending machine that can be used to copy and distribute Free and Open Source Software is made possible because of the Freedom associated with Free Software. Free Software by definition allows people to use, study, modify and share software without any restrictions. In addition to being free as in freedom, quite a few of the popular Free Software are also available free of cost and thus makes tremendous economic sense in a developing country like India. Additionally Free Software inherently promotes a spirit of innovation, drives local industry and thus spurs economic growth in an emerging economy like India.

Since inception in 2006, Zyxware Technologies has been at the forefront of promoting socially relevant projects. The series of public interest initiatives starting with the Chikungunya Tracking Free Software and continuing with the Freedom Toaster is proof of the company's commitment towards society as proclaimed by the company in it's mission statement - "Be the change you wish to see in the world".

We also welcome other companies, organizations and Free Software Users groups across the nation to take advantage of the freedom toaster. The toaster can be completely dismantled and can be transported anywhere in the country. Interested parties can also contact us and get us to fabricate and parcel freedom toasters to anywhere in India. We are also willing to loan it for the various GNU\Linux User's groups across India. More information about the design of the toaster and the software used can be found at www.freedomtoaster.in

Good News!

Thats great news as this will provide to many Indians free software. I can say that many in this country would be switching over to free open source software and free themselves from the bondage of Microsoft.
